Girl ShipTV

I recently came across a Youtube channel called Girl ShipTV. It’s all centered around LGBT content that is so interesting. There are original webseries and other things that they do. They also do Drunk Lesbians Watch, where queer women come on and they watch LGBT films while drinking. It’s pretty funny.

They are working on two new shows. One is called Carol’s a Demon. They already have the pilot episode up. It seems pretty cool and I hope they can make more. The other one is called Parallel and it’s kind of like that Black Mirror episode called Hang The DJ. A couple sees if they’d be together in other universes. I can’t wait to see what happens.

And then there is Project Inferno which is their webseries that already has one season out. I can’t wait till the second season. It ended up such a cliff hanger.

Writer’s Block Part 2

I have writer’s block again and that sucks. I don’t enjoy writer’s block because it makes me feel useless. I’ve tried looking at writing prompts and it doesn’t help me. It just makes me more frustrated. I can’t even think of anything else to write on this post. It’s just frustrating because I really want to write but I don’t know what to write about.

I know that eventually something will stick but I wish it could just hurry up and stick already. I’m not sure what I could do to speed it up. I’ve tried everything that usually works. Nothing is working this time. It’s just really frustrating to deal with. I do sloppy work when I feel like this. But I don’t know how to fix this.

Talk about Commitment: Watching a New Show

Watching a new show is a commitment. You have to devote time to actually watching and getting caught up on the show. It’s a weight that hangs over you till you get it done. At least for me it is. I have an app that I use to track all the shows I watch so it’s easier for me to schedule time to watch the shows.

And then if you’ve been looking forward to the show for a while it may not even live up to expectations. I want to watch Mr. Robot but I’m afraid that I won’t like it. I want to like it a lot because it has one of my favorite actors in it. But if I don’t like it then I won’t finish it.

That’s not to say I’d finish it anyway. I have a habit of starting a show and never finishing it. I take “breaks” that never end. I usually stop at season premieres. Then I usually never come back to it. I need to get better at finishing stuff.

Skam France

I recently started watching Skam France, the French version of the Norwegian drama Skam. So far I think it’s pretty good. They have definitely made some changes. Most of them work, some don’t. Part of me wants to treat French Skam as it’s own thing but comparisons are inevitable.

There are some new characters added and some of the original characters are written in ways where I like them more or less than the original. Take Jonas for example. I didn’t like Jonas in the original version, but in the French version he’s my favorite character. Or guy Chris. I really liked guy Chris in the original but now I don’t like him in the French version. They’ve also added new characters. There are two drama students that seem to play a big part in the show. I don’t know who they’re supposed to be from the original, if they’re even supposed to be someone.

Some of the plot has also changed. In the original, it was centered around this Norwegian thing called Russ. There is no Russ in France so I don’t know what this show will be centered around. Russ was the end goal of the whole series. I don’t know what’s going to fuel the groups getting together now that there is no Russ.

Overall I like it. The original is better but I am liking the French version. I hope the American version is good as well. I’ll keep watching the French version just to see what happens. Hopefully they keep up the good work

German: An Interesting Language

Recently I’ve started learning German. It’s actually pretty easy to get the hang of. It seems challenging at first, but it’s really fun. I’ve learned quite a bit. Maybe by the time the second season of Dark (a German show) comes out, I’ll be able to understand it. That probably won’t happen but it’s nice to dream.

I’m using Duolingo to learn. It’s a website and an app that helps you learn other languages. There are many languages that you can learn. Next I’m thinking about learning Italian. I want to live in Italy at some point so I hope that learning Italian before I go will be helpful. Italian seems like a fun language to learn anyway.

My goal is to learn everyday for at least fifteen minutes. I’ve achieved that goal so far so hopefully I’ll be able to continue it. I don’t think I’m good enough to hold a conversation yet. But maybe I will soon. I tried learning Norwegian a year ago but I didn’t continue. It was mostly for a show that I liked but that show ended. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

College Dreams

My friend MG wants us to go to the same college. I don’t know if that’s even possible. Obviously I’d love for that to happen but I’m just thinking realistically. I don’t even know where I want to go to college. I have a slight grasp on what I want to do though. Some field of psychology. Either criminal or working with veterans. I think I can go to any college for that. MG wants to be a veterinarian. That’s what I last heard at least. We don’t really talk about that stuff. We usually talk about Stranger Things. Well, she talks and I listen. I like it though. It’s comfortable.

I’m hoping she can come visit this summer. I’ll be able to drive by myself so we can go places without my parents tagging along. I want her to meet my other friends. She’ll like them. I hope at least. I also want to show her around town. Who knows, maybe we’ll go to college here?

I feel like I’ll have to look over her in college. Her parents are very religious so she’s very sheltered. I feel like once she’s out of their house she’ll go crazy. I have to make sure she doesn’t go too crazy. I don’t want her getting hurt or anything.

But I don’t really think we’ll go to the same college. I’m just being realistic. There’s too much to chance by that. And I want to study abroad for a semester so that may also be difficult. I don’t know though. There’s a slight chance that we could. I just don’t want to go back to Florida. At least where we lived

I, Tonya: Shattering Expectations

I, Tonya is a new movie about the life of Tonya Harding, former figure skater. It stars Margot Robbie, Alison Janey, and Sebastian Stan. It goes through Tonya Harding’s life, from childhood to adulthood. It more addresses Tonya Harding’s life than the Nancy Kerrigan incident. But the Nancy Kerrigan incident does play a big role towards the end of the film.

The performances in this movie were very good. Alison Janey as Tonya’s mother was so funny. The writing and authenticity was so refreshing and really showed how much they care about the story. The directing was good and the costumes were amazing. One thing that they didn’t do that well on was the CGI. While Tonya is skating you can tell that they CGI’d Margo Robbie’s face onto the stunt double’s body.

Overall, I would rate this movie an 8.3/10. It was funny and good but didn’t do anything spectacular or new. The editing was the most interesting thing about it, technical wise. The writing and directing were good, but nothing new. The performances were exceptional. Alison Janey stood out the most in this film. I highly recommend the film, especially if you watched the event live. You’ll enjoy the authenticity of it.

The End of the F***ing World Review

The show, The End of the F***ing World is about a psychopath named James and his girlfriend Alyssa. He starts a relationship with Alyssa in order to get close enough to kill her. They end up going on a road trip and living their life in a whole new way. You see the characters learn and grow as their adventure leads to possibly grave consequences.

Overall it is a very well done show. The writing and story is very compelling and it keeps you hooked throughout the whole show. It’s a very easy watch as well, episodes only being 20 minutes long. The music of it all is very good, giving it a teen angst rock vibe with a bit of old western country. The cinematography was very well done, most shots mirroring the tone of the show. The aesthetic of it all is an aesthetic that most teens tend to lean towards.

I would highly recommend this show to anyone. It has a bit of everything. It has romance, murder, drama, and very funny moments. It leaves off on a huge cliffhanger. Hopefully it will come back for a second season, but maybe ending the way it did will be it’s legacy. Overall, it would be good either way. I give this show a 9.2/10

Lady Bird- Spoiler Review

I saw Lady Bird this weekend at it was one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. The performances were amazing, Laurie Metcalf was outstanding as the mother. The writing and directing were outstanding. This would be the most snubbed film if this doesn’t win an Oscar.

Lady Bird is about a girl named Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson during her last year of high school. She tries balancing romantic, school, and home life while also getting ready for college. Her mother and her are almost always fighting with each other but still love each other.

This film shows mother daughter relationships in the rawest form. I felt like I connected with the way it was portrayed. Greta Gerwig wrote these characters so real and raw and genuine that it would be hard not to find someone you connected with. The ending of this movie left something to be desired but overall was fulfilling.

I’d give lady bird a 9.6/10. It lacked a bit with transitions but it also had some really great ones. I felt like it also lacked a bit with relying on some cliches a bit much. But again, the writing and directing were fantastic so none of it’s faults really took me out of the movie too much. I highly recommend this film to anyone and everyone.

Nightcrawler

I recently watched the movie Nightcrawler and it was very good. I enjoyed the cinematography and the atmosphere of the whole movie. It was like a modernized film noir. The writing was great and Jake Gyllenhaal was fantastic. It had a lot of twists and kept you involved while watching it. I won’t put any spoilers but the ending was very disturbing. Not in a gore way but just in the implication of what happens. It’s hard to describe without spoiling it all.

The movie is a great character study. Lou Bloom is definitely a sociopath but you don’t start seeing that till later. And even then they don’t outright say it. He does things impulsively but is very intelligent, not a common trait for a sociopath. Even though he does horrible things, you still can understand why he does them. That’s what makes him a complex protagonist.

Overall I enjoyed the movie a lot and would recommend it to anyone interested. It has great writing and visuals. The performances are great. It’s hard to believe Jake Gyllenhaal wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. The writing was, which is well deserved. I’d give this movie a 8.5/10.
